R2 buys you a chance to win a mound of cash, be sure to play! NEW-LOOK KAIZER CHIEFS COME UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT For South African football fans, the highlight of the weekend is the start of the 2024-25 Premier Soccer League, now sponsored by Betway. The league kicks off with the clash between Royal AM and Cape Town City at 15:00 on Saturday and later in the afternoon we will get to see if a bunch of new faces improve the fortunes of Kaizer Chiefs, who take on Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein. Both matches are included in a R200,000-added Soccer 10. Chiefs didn’t qualify for this season's MTN8 so their new Tunisian head coach Nasreddine Nabi has had time to assess how best to maximise half a dozen new signings. Nabi’s no mug and has had much success, including guiding FAR Rabat to a second-place finish behind Raja Casablanca in last season’s top league in Morocco. Nabi's reign at Chiefs will be helped by a good start and Chiefs should have enough quality to get past Gallants, who are in the PSL this season after buying the top-flight status of Moroka Swallows. They hired Dylan Kerr as head coach, but he walked out in July and has been replaced by another experienced PSL coach in Dan Malesela. The match of the weekend is on Sunday, when arch-rivals Spurs and Arsenal face off in a North London derby. Spurs have not beaten Arsenal since August 2021, but there’s much in their favour this time. They’re at home and Arsenal will be missing two key players in midfield general Declan Rice (suspended) and captain and playmaker Martin Odegaard, expected to be out of action for some three weeks after suffering an ankle injury. Spurs do have their own injury concerns - midfielder Yves Bissouma may not play after limping off while playing for Mali on Tuesday injured and defender Micky Van der Ven and new striker Dominic Solanke are not guaranteed to play. SUGGESTED BANKER BETS FOR THE WEEKEND Top-level club soccer returns this weekend after the international window and there’s mega cash on the table for TAB soccer customers - two guaranteed Soccer 13 pools (R26 million Saturday; R10 million Sunday), carryover Soccer Any 13 Saturday’s guaranteed Soccer 13 is the bet many football fans will aim at and the pool comprises a combination of EPL and English Championship matches. Four EPL games appear to offer bankers with all of Aston Villa, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Liverpool set to win at home. The Championship matches are tougher to call, but log-leaders Sunderland should win away at Plymouth and with home advantage it will be a shock if Middlesbrough don’t outgun Preston North End.
