Tough Week At The Coalface
Danie Toerien, an integral and valued member of the 4Racing publishing team, suffered a series of heart attacks on Wednesday, 4th and Thursday, 5 October. He successfully underwent surgery at Krugersdorp Private Hospital on Thursday afternoon and is currently being monitored in ICU . We wish Danie and his family all the very best for his recovery. We also extend our support to much loved presenter Lyall Cooper and his partner Charlene. For the last few months Lyall has been valiantly grappling with a cancer diagnosis, exacerbated by additional complications with Covid and diabetes. Lyall has recently been transferred to Carstenhof Hospital in Midrand for further treatment and we wish him and his family strength and courage through this difficult period. Lastly, it is with enormous sadness that we learnt of the passing of Matthew Lips on Friday, 6 October. A wonderful racing scribe, form and pedigree analyst, handicapper, wit and friend to many, he will be most sadly missed.
