Zaki and Zackey to don the Cap

April 2026

Jack Milner

There is a lot of money up for grabs at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday with the running of the R5-million Race Coast Sales Big Cap over 1400m and the R3-million Race Coast Sales Slipper over 1200m.

Both races are Non-Black Type events.

Both are interesting races as they look to be quite competitive. Justin Snaith holds the strongest hand in the high stakes Big Cap with four of the 13 runners. They all have chances but the best of his quartet could very well be Roland Garros, who had an excellent debut run in KwaZulu-Natal when just failing to snare classy Mike and Mathew de Kock-trained I’m A Fireball in a 1400m race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

He looked unlucky to lose that race and it is significant that jockey JP van der Merwe elected to ride the three-year-old Vercingetorix colt over Randolph Hearst. The latter also had a promising first race in the province over the same course and distance but found well-supported Talk To The Master too good.

The four-year-old Master Of My Fate gelding won by 1.90 lengths and clearly had plenty in hand. In addition, he was giving 6kg to Randolph Hearst and this time it will be the latter who has to concede 0.5kg to his rival.

Now trained by Dominic Zaki after his move from the Western Cape, accolades were poured on Talk To The Master both preceding and after that race from a Zaki and a Zackey – trainer Dominic and jockey Craig.

He looks to be a top-class performer and big things are expected of him over the winter season, and he could cap it all off with a victory that be a financial boost to his connections.

Roland Garros stands out as the main threat but those looking for some value could take a glance at Sean Tarry-trained Tintin.

This four-year-old gelding has made a slow start to his career but he has is starting to produce some decent performances and comes off three successive victories. He is one to include in Trifectas and Quartets.

Tarry could hold the aces in the Slipper as he sends out highly regarded Turn It Up in this contest for two-year-olds.

His first run when second behind Heath House was not a bad effort because the winner already had the benefit of a run and is very decent. He

was a different horse when winning easily second time out and repeated the performance some three months later when rumoured to be in need of the run. He looks a horse heading for Grade 1 success as he is a half-brother to Proceed, with whom Tarry won the Grade 1 Gold Medallion for juveniles over 1200m at Scottsville, a race at which Turn It Up is also likely to be aimed.

The son of Querari is drawn slightly wide in No 10 draw and will be having his first race around the turn but his main rivals on form, Red Spice and World Attraction, are drawn even wider out in gates No 12 and 13 respectively.
