Zackey to act on the Polytrack

There is a seven-race programme on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville today and as is typical of these midweek cards, it is not easy to find winners.

The best bet looks to be Elegant Act in Race 2, a Maiden Handicap for fillies and mares over 1400m.  

So far Dean Kannemeyer’s charge has been expensive to follow for she has run two seconds and two thirds in her last four starts but has failed to book a place in the winners’ enclosure.

However, the three-year-old daughter of Act Of War may have landed the perfect race as none of her six rivals really stand out.

In her penultimate start, won by Celtic Beauty, she had impressive next-start winners Wonderful and When Evening Comes well beaten.

Last time out she progressed nicely at the end to oust well-backed One Smart Cookie for second place.

On the negative side, her worst performance so far came in her only race on the Polytrack. While Elegant Act did finish second, she was beaten 8.40 lengths by Contra Fiscum. While that is a concern, it does happen on this surface that one runner can get away from its opposition at the top of the straight and become impossible to catch.

In fairness, though, she was brought back from 1600m to 1200m for that start and she was carried in, so didn’t have the clearest of passages.

She does look to be at her best over 1400m, and this time Craig Zackey should be able to guide her to victory.

Trainer Louis Goosen has an excellent record with sprinters and his runners tend to do well on the Polytrack.

He saddles War Empress in Race 7 and even though she is taking on the boys, she looks the one to beat in this MR 84 Handicap over 1000m.
