Wisper was a real eyecatcher at Goodwood last time out and is rated one to keep on side in the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap at Lingfield.
Marcus Tregoning’s mare was held up at the rear of the field by Kieran Shoemark but still appeared to be travelling sweetly as she started to cut through the pack in the latter stages of that 10-furlong contest.
Unfortunately, a gap closed on her just as she was starting to fly home and Shoemark had to snatch up the six-year-old before finishing fifth, just a length and a half adrift of the winner Al Anoud.
Wisper had previously been a close second at Windsor and has only put in one below-par effort from five outings this term, so her turn is surely near.
With six wins on her card so far, she knows how to get the job done when things fall her way and giving weight to lesser rivals has never been a problem.
Miss Nightfall went into plenty of notebooks following her racecourse introduction and looks worth following in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 British EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes.
James Fanshawe’s juvenile attracted support in the betting ring at Windsor but a combination of starting slowly and then finding trouble in running at the furlong pole meant she had to settle for third place behind impressive scorer Preanka.
However, she should know much more about what is required this time and the daughter of Sands Of Mali is a half-sister to a couple of multiple winners.
At Nottingham, Kalahari Blue can make it third time lucky in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
Ollie Sangster’s Blue Point filly was very green on her Goodwood debut but stepped up on that when a well-backed third at Newbury, where she did not quite get the run of the race at a crucial stage.
Her dam Badr Al Badoor has already produced four winners, including the useful Archer’s Dream, so Kalahari Blue should be upholding family honour before too long.
Prevail hails from a strong Cheveley Park Stud family and appeals on her second start in the Weatherbys Digital Solutions Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly was doing her best work late on when fifth at Yarmouth in what looked a decent affair and should be sharper for that outing.
Almudena looks a typical Sir Mark Prescott slow burner who may now be worth sticking with in the Weatherbys Racing Bank Colwick Cup Handicap after coming good at Sandown recently.
Luke Morris gave her plenty of time to get into that one-mile-six-furlong contest but she eventually came home strongly to snatch victory in the closing stages.
Stepping up to two miles seems a shrewd move and more improvement can be expected now the penny has dropped.
Miss Stormy Night has predictably flown up the rankings following a summer hat-trick but don’t rule out her still being ahead of the assessor in the Weatherbys Hamilton Handicap.
Clive Cox’s filly has finished powerfully to oblige at Salisbury, this venue and Lingfield and is clearly full of confidence right now.
Indemnity is of interest in the McEwan Grant Construction Scottish Trophy Handicap at Hamilton.
Roger Varian’s lightly-raced four-year-old has twice been a beaten favourite since hacking up at short odds in a Nottingham maiden but was far from disgraced on each occasion.
The feeling is that we have yet to see the best of this well-bred gelding and stepping back up in trip may just give him more time to get into a winning position again.
Iris Dancer showed a great attitude to score here in May and at Carlisle last month, before finishing a fine third of 21 at York.
In her current mood, a seventh course win is achievable in the McEwan Grant Construction & Retail Joinery Handicap.
