Winnebago can put the experience of two promising efforts to good use in the British EBF Novice Stakes at Yarmouth on Tuesday.
Tom Clover’s charge was quietly fancied for his Newmarket debut and caught the eye when rallying to finish fourth behind Defence Minister after just being tapped for toe at the furlong pole.
The form of that six-furlong contest has worked out well enough, with the first and third scoring next time out.
He then split a couple of beautifully-bred Godolphin runners at this venue and although the victor Midnight Thunder has subsequently disappointed, he was sent off favourite for last Friday’s Group Three Cornwallis Stakes.
Starspangledbanner colt Winnebego is himself from a strong Godolphin line, with dam Bitter Lake enjoying success with both her previous foals, including Listed-class runner-up Loch Lundie.
Al Waseela has been knocking on the door of late, twice going down by just a neck as a beaten favourite at Chelmsford and Leicester.
The third home was well behind on both occasions and the William Haggas-trained daughter of Siyouni is backed to recoup those losses in the Download The Raceday Ready App Nursery Handicap.
Afloat bids for a quick course and distance double in the Simon & Rosalyn Peak Retirement Handicap under a 5lb penalty.
Following an unlucky third over 10 furlongs here, when she went down by a short head and a nose after jockey Callum Shepherd lost an iron late on and she just failed to get up, Rae Guest’s filly appeared to relish stepping up in distance.
Sent off 3-1 favourite in a 16-runner field on good to soft, Afloat was always travelling smoothly and eventually pulled clear to score by a comfortable three lengths.
It Just Takes Time proved aptly named when breaking his duck for this season at the ninth attempt by making all at Beverley last month.
Mark Walford’s gelding seemed to enjoy stepping up to an extended seven furlongs, as he was able to control proceedings and gallop on well from the front.
That was his 10th career victory overall and a 3lb uplift in Leicester’s Watch On Racing TV Handicap still leaves him well below his highest successful mark from last summer.
Rialannah showed plenty of promise in her first season over obstacles, closing with a couple of rock-solid runner-up efforts.
She showed plenty of spirit to get within half a length of hot favourite Pitwood Road at Market Rasen and then chased home another market leader in The Lord Maid at Southwell.
Although it was slightly frustrating not to get her head in front, starting out this term still in novice company is some compensation and she appeals in the 100 Years Of Market Rasen Maiden Hurdle back at the Lincolnshire venue.
Mylesfromwicklow just failed to see out a couple of summer races either side of a wind operation but may benefit from a four-month break.
He was previously a nice course and distance victor at the end of March and may be able to dominate proceedings in the Boxing Day At Market Rasen Racecourse Handicap Chase.
Shaladar ran well when a runner-up at Newcastle last November and returns there for the first division of the Download The Racecourse App Raceday Ready Handicap in good heart, having been placed twice at Ascot over the past five weeks.
