Will class beat form on the Polytrack?

January 2023

The Aloe Handicap (Non-Black Type) for three-year-old fillies over 1300m on the Fairview Polytrack takes centre stage on Monday and it promises to be an interesting contest as it seems to be a test of whether class will prevail or form on the surface.

Chere For Me is clearly the class act of the field but the fact she has yet to win in her two attempts on the surface could mean she is vulnerable to a filly like Chroniclesofnania.

This Tara Laing-trained filly will be in receipt of 5kg from Chere For Me and was a decent winner the first time she tried the Polytrack.

That was over 1600m and the drop in distance may not suit, but she did also run well last time when third behind Demigod who runs a race earlier, so the strength of that run will be known before Chroniclesofnania lines up for this race.

Ryan Munger retains the ride.

Chere For Me was a top-class juvenile and her form reads pretty well if this race was being run on turf. She has beaten some of rivals in this race, including Gavin Smith-trained Easy Living by 5.50 lengths and again by 4.85 lengths.

Stablemate Pinnacle was 4.75 adrift of Chere For Me when that filly won in June last year.

Since then though, both Easy Living and Pinnacle have shown a liking for the surface and have won some nice races.

Talking about nice recent winners, Carbonado was very impressive in her last win which was over 1200m on this track. That win did suggest she had more wins in her.

Filly Double Destiny is another who has shown good form on turf but has not really reproduced that on the Polytrack. She quickens nicely on grass but has lacked a strong finish on the Polytrack.
