Western Stars in line for treble at Windsor

October 2023

Western Stars has seemingly found a new lease of life since joining Jim Boyle and he can bring up his hat-trick in the Ivor Laws Memorial Handicap on Monday at Windsor.

The Almanzor gelding won just once in 12 outings for previous trainer Ed Dunlop before changing hands for just 5,500 guineas in August.

He has proved an excellent buy, as four runs for his new team have produced two places and two victories, most recently scoring over an extended 2200m at this track.

Western Stars won off a mark of 70 on that occasion and must shoulder a 2.5kg penalty for his win here, but the presence of the very capable claimer Luke Catton again aids his cause.

He also won off a perch of 77 for Dunlop last year, so there could be room to manoeuvre.

The Charltons can make their mark on the card with Mother Margaret.

She has shaped with promise in two starts over 1400m and could open her account stepping up to 1600m in the At The Races App Expert Tips Maiden Stakes.

Granger Bay is an eyecatching newcomer in the opening British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Yarmouth.

Trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam, this colt is a full brother to her former stable star Saffron Beach, a dual Group One winner and a proper top-class performer.

Granger Bay cost 450,000 euro as a yearling and is sure to attract plenty of attention.

Moswaat showed a fair measure of promise when third from a high draw on debut at Kempton.

He was near to the pace throughout that day and just dropped away a little in the final 200m to be beaten 1.75-lengths but should be wiser for the experience in the British EBF Novice Stakes.

At Kempton, Expert Agent can pick up his just rewards for some consistent performances in the Racing League earlier in the summer.

All three victories for Kevin Philippart De Foy's three-year-old have come on the all-weather and this track really seemed to suit when scoring here in January.

His mark remains reasonable and the gelding can produce a bold show in the Unibet More Extra Place Races Handicap.

North of the border at Musselburgh, a return to the minimum distance can help Ayr Bronze Cup third Jordan Electrics continue his fine run of form to get on the scoresheet in the Bet In Running On Racing At BetVictor Handicap.

Jim Goldie's seven-year-old has in fact placed twice at 1200m since scoring over 1000m at Carlisle last month and the course-and-distance scorer is only 1kg higher on this occasion. - Press Association
