Jack Milner: Punters opening Friday’s Fairview’s ComputaForm could be excused for thinking they were reading Saturday’s Kenilworth book as runners from Justin Snaith and Candice Bass-Robinson stables dominate the card.
With heavy rain affecting the racing in the Western Cape it is not surprising to see an onslaught of runners from that centre travelling the 750km east to fight for the spoils on offer. Perusing the card, that should be a majority of the prize money.
Snaith looks to have the best two bets on the card, Coffee Break in Race 1 and Somerset Maugham in Race 6.
Coffee Break has only raced twice and looks far better than his runners in this Maiden Plate over 1200m.
Somerset Maugham did not disgrace himself in a couple of feature races in Cape Town and drops to a plated race where on official ratings he appears hard to beat.
Some horses in good form such as Storm Commander, are taking him on but unless he runs well below his form they may have to settle for the minor roles.
In Race 4, On Your Marks from the Candice Bass-Robinson yard looks another banker bet as his form over the distance has resulted in two runner-up berths in Cape Town, and blinkers have certainly improved the gelding.
The restriction to the movement of jockeys under Level 4 lockdown has proved fortunate for Francois Herholdt and Keanen Steyn who have picked up the rides for Snaith and Bass-Robinson respectively.
