Jockey Sean Veale is having the season of his life, having ridden 105 winners so far - the first time he has surpassed the double-figure mark in his career.
He clinched the card opener on Hollywoodbets Durban July Day when he steered Rugger Lover to victory in a Class 4 race over 1200m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack for fillies and mares.
The four-year-old is trained by Tienie Prinsloo, who has only eight horses in his yard.
"If you look after them, they will run well for you," said Prinsloo after the race, adding that Veale has always produced good results for him.
With the ice broken on the day, Veale was optimistic about his chances aboard Gladatorian for trainer Stuart Ferrie later in the big race, the Durban July over 2200m.
"If it's my day today, it's my day," said the jockey. "I'm just glad I got to boot one home on this Glorious day. Look at the crowd. I don't think I've ever seen Greyville like this."
