Van Zyl looks set for a ‘Pritti Victory’

In spite of having to concede weight to all of her rivals, Pritti Victory stands out the runner to beat in Race 4 at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday, a MR 90 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1000m.

The daughter of Vercingetorix has already built up a decent record of three wins from five starts and looks a useful sprinter in the making.

She is a full sister to Phedra who built up a record of nine wins in 27 starts racing at Fairview.

This Gareth van Zyl-trained runner returns from 59 days off the track but sadly did miss out on an earlier run when she was withdrawn late as a result of high CO2 levels.

All but one of her runs have been over 1200m, the other coming over 1600m. That race took place at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth and was the R7.5-million Cape Racing Gold Rush (Non-Black Type) for three-year-olds.

As was the case with Charlie in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory, Pritti Victory held a gold ticket and with that amount of prize money up for grabs it was worth taking the chance. However, she failed to see out the distance and finished seventh, 7.05 lengths behind Rapidash.

There is no doubt she is at her best over 1200m and there is also no question she loves Scottsville where she has won both of her starts.

She is unlikely to be troubled by the drop in trip this time and despite having the burden of 61kg on her back, Pritti Victory looks hard to beat. And the fact Van Zyl has engaged the services of champion jockey in-waiting Richard Fourie for the ride, adds to her attraction.

Only seven runners are carded to line up for this race so there should not be any “argy-bargy”.
