UK Racing: Tracer Is The One To Watch At Windsor

July 2023

By Adam Morgan, PA

Watch My Tracer has a return to the winner's enclosure on his radar and could get proceedings off to a blistering start in division one of the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Windsor.

George Scott's youngster beat subsequent scorer El Bodon with a degree of comfort at Yarmouth on debut and was immediately pointed towards Royal Ascot where he ran with real credit in what a high-class renewal of the Coventry Stakes, finishing seventh.

In that, he had just the runner-up Army Ethos and third Bucanero Fuerte ahead of him of those on his side of the track and with Bucanero Fuerte since franking the form when claiming the Railway Stakes, the race has a strong look to it.

Sights are lowered here and although he has to concede a penalty to his rivals, this looks his for the taking.

Crocus Time has hit the bar twice, but her moment can come in division two of the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.

Third on each of two runs for Richard Hannon, her recent two-and-a-half-length defeat at the hands of the well-regarded Dance Sequence looked a decent effort - a repeat of which should be good enough here.

The penny looked to drop for Roger Varian's Matloob when she opened her account by beating a useful filly with ease at Wolverhampton recently and the manner of that performance suggests there should be much more to come here in the Spinnaker Support Nursery Handicap.

She joins the handicap ranks off a mark of 82 and that could really underestimate the potential of this well-bred daughter of Dark Angel who is out of the speedy Norfolk Stakes scorer Shang Shang Shang.

Also at Windsor, Middleham Park Racing's Absolute Queen has the chance of securing a hat-trick in the concluding Racing League On Sky Sports Racing Handicap.

The George Boughey-trained filly was brave when successful over almost two furlongs extra here earlier this month, but returns to 10 furlongs now off a 3lb higher mark and conditions seem ideal for another bold bid.

There is action north of the border at Ayr and One Last Hug must be considered having been in rude health this term.

He was a cosy winner over five furlongs here last week, but has no problem up at six and could prove tough to beat in the Racing League On Sky Sports Racing Handicap under a 4lb penalty.

Trainer Jim Goldie could also be on the scoresheet with another track specialist, Rory, in the Ayrshire Cancer Support Handicap, while Richard Fahey's Beechwood Star showed plenty of promise despite being extremely green at Thirsk on debut and could take a step forward in the Hospitality At Scottish Sun Ladies Night Restricted Novice Stakes.

At Wolverhampton, the best bet could come in the last race of the night where Caesars Pearl bids to get back on track in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap.

Craig Lidster's three-year-old disappointed over seven furlongs most recently but had plenty of excuses on that occasion and she now drops back to a distance where she has shown some rock-solid form this term.

Also at Dunstall Park, keep an eye on Oh So Grand who stepped up on a debut fourth to win at Bath at the start of the month.

Beaten just under three lengths at the first attempt, Oh So Grand used the experience to good effect to prevail by a neck over 10 furlongs, looking good value for the winning distance.

This well-bred filly can go well again for Simon and Ed Crisford in the At The Races App Market Movers Restricted Novice Stakes.
