Two early bankers at Durbanville

October 2022

Jack Milner

Racing at Hollywoodbets Durbanville tends to throw up some questionable results at times but there appear to be some quality bets at the course on Wednesday.

It is the final meeting at the country track for a while as racing reverts to Kenilworth on Saturday.

While there are only seven races on the card TAB will be providing betting on a BiPot and Place Accumulator, both starting in Race 1.

Bettors could take a chance in Races 1 and 2 with bankers in both races as it gets tougher further down the card.

Of the raced runners, Head Girl stands out in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1000m. Andre Nel’s charge has only raced twice, finishing a 2.25-length second behind Cityscape on debut over 1000m at Kenilworth and following up with a 1.70-length fourth behind I’ll Slip Away over 1250m at Durbanville.

The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade led for most of the journey on that occasion only to be caught close home, so reverting to 1000m should be ideal for Head Girl. Grant van Niekerk takes the ride this time.

There are first-timers in this race so one will need to keep an eye on significant betting moves. The one who looks of particular interest is Brett Crawford-trained Priceless, a well-bred daughter of What A Winter. If there is confident support for her one should perhaps add her into the BiPot.

A good performance by Head Girl should provide a pointer to our Race 2 banker, Justin Snaith-trained Strawberry Light. This daughter of Gimmethegreenlight produced a stirring finish last time, to go down a head to I’ll Slip Away with Head Girl another 1.60 lengths back.

The step up to 1400m should be ideal and from No 1 draw she looks the standout bet on the card.
