True Love in the air at Newmarket

September 2025

True Love can return to winning ways in the Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

Aidan O'Brien's charge has won two of her five starts, but the bare statistics do not do her justice as she has mixed it with the very best of the juvenile crop this year, chasing home Lady Iman and stablemate Gstaad on her first two starts.

She graduated to the winner's enclosure in style when landing the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot before easily accounting for another stablemate, Puerto Rico, and Power Blue in the Railway Stakes, beating the latter by just short of six lengths.

True Love's progression derailed on her next outing though, finishing second to Power Blue in the Phoenix Stakes, with the winner turning around previous form as he was 1.5-lengths in front this time.

Ryan Moore was not too hard on the No Nay Never filly when her chance had gone and it later transpired she had finished slightly lame, so back to full fitness and ready to go, True Love could offer a bit of value in a race in which O'Brien excels.

Wise Approach will not be such a generous price in the Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes but it is hard to look past Charlie Appleby's runner.

He has had a bit of an up and down year, winning on debut, suffering a surprise defeat at York and then bouncing back to chase home Charles Darwin in the Norfolk Stakes.

His Listed Rose Bowl win at Newbury set him up perfectly for the Prix Morny and he ran a cracker to finish third to Venetian Sun, beaten 0.5-lengths by the winner conceding 4lb.

Gstaad was just ahead in second that day and as O'Brien opted not to declare that colt, a key rival is absent and Wise Approach can take advantage back on his preferred quicker ground.

Bow Echo can maintain his perfect record in the Tattersalls Online Royal Lodge Stakes.

This is a leap to Group Two company for George Boughey's runner, but the trainer has made no secret of the regard in which he holds the Night Of Thunder colt, who impressed with an easy Newbury maiden win in August.

He was equally as eyecatching when rallying to beat the well-touted Publish at Haydock last time out, displaying a very likeable attitude which should stand him in good stead on this rise in class.

Real Gain can go well at double-figure odds in the bet365 Cambridgeshire, for which he was ante-post favourite last year before having to miss out following a setback.

The five-year-old will be having just his 10th career start after encountering some bumps in the road following a useful juvenile campaign.

He recently returned from over a year off the track with a fine third at Goodwood, where the soft ground really would not have played to his strengths.

Beaten two lengths off a mark of 95, he remains on that perch and is certainly one for the shortlist.

Away from Newmarket, Woven is sure to be a popular pick in the Hallgarten And Novum Wines Handicap at Haydock.

He finished with a real rattle in last week's Bronze Cup at Ayr, falling just a neck short of victory. A similar effort should be good enough. - Press Association
