Tripping Thunder stands out in KZN

Tripping Thunder looks to be one of the better bets at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday. Glen Kotzen’s charge was expected to need his last run which came after a three-month rest, but the gelded son of Trippi ran a gallant fourth under top weight behind Circumbendibus.

That was his second run since arriving in KwaZulu-Natal from the Western Cape and both have been over 1200m at this course. His first run saw him score a facile 3.80-length win a Maiden Plate.

Stripping fitter and benefitting from the 2.5kg claimed by apprentice Jacey Botes, he rates the runner to beat in Race 3, a Class 4 Handicap over 1000m.

Tripping Thunder appears underrated, racing off a merit rating of 82. When in the Cape Tripping Thunder finished runner-up behind Jet Force, beaten only 0.75 lengths. The latter recently confirmed high-class potential, beating Justin Snaith’s leading three-year-old Absolutely Yes and looks set for an exciting Cape Summer season.

Tripping Thunder must have more to come and should have every chance of adding to his tally in a race where in-form Rafa’s Boy and Jet Legacy have a bit to find with upped ratings.

Paul Lafferty’s yard has been in winning form of late. He has a sole runner on the day but one that looks well placed.
