Tres Chic looks the value in the Cape

August 2024

With all the rain over the Western Cape the province has seen little racing over the past month, so after all the delays and rejigged calendar racing fans, and the organisers, will be delighted Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth racecard will see the running of the four Winter Country Championship Finals.

The value in Race 6, the Class 5 Winter Country Championship 1200 Final, lies with Gimmethegreenlight filly Tres Chic - one of three Piet Botha-trained runners in the race. She caught the eye when running on from a long way back (hopeless position!) under 61kg over the same track and trip to finish just 1.10 lengths behind last-start conqueror Royal Lytham on 11 June.

Botha's charge is weighted reverse that form on 1.5kg better terms and is worth a confident Eachway bet under Louie Mxothwa,

Paul Reeves has two strings to his bow in Race 7 - Class 4 Winter Country Championship 1200 Final - and lightly raced Pathfork gelding Sooty makes for an attractive betting proposition after his fast-finishing close-up third over the same course and distance last time out. He had re-opposing rivals Lunch Money, All About Al, Go It Alone, and stablemate Mighty Mac behind him that day.

Sooty is weighted to confirm that form/his superiority on the revised weight terms so needs only to repeat his last performance to score a second career success.
