Tread swiftly at Scottsville

There’s an old joke about a man who dreams of the number seven. He looks at the day’s racecard to discover that in Race 7, horse No 7 is drawn No 7 and is 7-1. So, he sticks R7 on the tote for a Win – and the horse ran seventh.

Hopefully that dream will not turn into a nightmare for Tread Swiftly at Scottsville today. He too, runs in Race 7, he is No 7 and is drawn No 7.

Peter Muscutt’s charge was highly thought of as a juvenile but failed to hit the expected heights after his debut win on the Polytrack.

Subsequent gelding and the fitting of blinkers seems to have done the trick, though. With apprentice Jabu Jacobs claiming 1.5kg, he will carry just 51.5kg.

So, on a difficult card, it might be worth going with this improving three-year-old son of What A Winter as a banker in all bets.

Muscutt is double-handed in Race 8 and should end the day on a winning note with Donovan Dillon and Visionaire filly East Coast Star, who is comfortably the best bet on the card after two seconds from three starts.
