TOUGH TO BEAT THE COMBO

April 2024

-Henk Steenkamp-

It will be a tough task to keep the potent combination of trainer Alan Greeff and jockey Richard Fourie away from the beautiful Glenlair Trophy at Fairview on Friday afternoon.

Bournemouth will have to be at the top of his game though to win the feature, the R175 000 Glenlair Trophy (Non-Black Type) over 2800m, at the Fairview Turf meeting.

He resumes rivalry with the Master Of My Fate filly Medlers Tart (Sharon Kotzen) who beat the son of Canford Cliffs by four lengths in their last start over 2700m a month ago.

Bournemouth will appreciate the extra 100m and a much better effort is expected. He is our pick to win.

Medlers Tart must be respected. She is in fine fettle and a serious challenger with Luyolo Mxothwa in the irons.

Champion trainer Gavin Smith is in tremendous form and saddled four winners last Friday.

He will have Peace In Our World and Zatara Magic ready to run big races.

The Glenlair Trophy is the seventh of the eight carded races and eight stayers will face the starter at 16:15.

There will be lots of bonuses up for grabs in the first three races.

The first race at 12:50 is the Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Juvenile Plate, carrying a R100 000 BSA bonus. It is the first leg of the Bipot.

Race two gets the Place Accumulator underway at 13:25 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate, in which another BSA bonus comes into play.

There is a Racehorse Owners Association bonus in the third race to aim for in the third race, an Open Maiden, at 14:00 when the Pick Six starts.

The champion filly Luna Halo (Greeff) is drawn widest of all but will be hard to beat in race four, a Pinnacle Stakes for fillies and mares over 1400m.

She will be trying to make it three wins in a row in the first leg of the first Jackpot. The consistent mare And We Danced (Kotzen) is her danger. This race is off at 14:35.

Ferrando (Kelly Mitchley) is the horse to beat in race five which is the first leg of the second Jackpot at 15:15.

Keep an eye on Great Times (Jacques Strydom) with apprentice jockey Donald Geerthsen retaining the ride, Mr Bodacious (Smith) and Jackson Misissippi (Duncan McKenzie) in this sprint.
