Three class runners stand out on Saturday’s card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth – Double Grand Slam, Tenango and All The Rage.
In a recent interview champion trainer Justin Snaith named Double Grand Slam as a horse to follow again when asked for a top three for the season, which means the five-year-old has lost none of her spark.
The Vercingetorix mare, who bagged two Grade 1s last season which earned her the Equus Award as Champion Older Filly, carries joint top weight with last start Grade 2 winner Rainbow Lorikeet but is by far the best handicapped runner in Race 2, the Summer Bowl over 1600m.
She beat Bass-trained Rainbow Lorikeet in the race last year. It is a race designed for horses of her calibre who need a pipe opener and last year Double Grand Slam won by 0.50 lengths but is a full 6kg better off this time and is expected to have an easier task.
Andrew Fortune takes the ride.
Last time All The Rage came from behind to beat Grade 1 winner Good For You and had subsequent winners Disting and Powerandtheglory also well beaten. Interestingly, he is not top rated but won his last two easily and that rating could balloon shortly, he should be hard to beat in Race 6, the Listed Sophomore Sprint over 1200m.
Aldo Domeyer knows him well and he will be taking the ride once again.
Tenango looks to have Race 8, The Bantry Bay Stakes, at his mercy even if returning after a 118-day rest. The Canford Cliffs gelding who has a smooth but explosive turn of foot found only one better in Highveld sensation Buffalo Storm Cody in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint and that is the strongest form by a street in his heat.
