THYER CAN STRIKE FOR BOTTI AT NOTTINGHAM

June 2025

By Anita Chambers, PA

Thyer can improve on his recent Nottingham second by winning the PricedUp Handicap back at the Colwick Park venue.

Bought for just 7,000 guineas last summer after winning one of his two starts for Andrew Balding, Thyer made an immediate impact for Marco Botti when taking a Windsor novice before finishing fifth on his handicap debut at Ascot.

He spent the winter in Dubai with Lucie Botti for what proved a disappointing spell, but Thyer then returned to something like his best on his first British run back, registering a narrow second over the same extended mile he faces here.

Beaten just a neck, Thyer was raised 2lb for that run but is still slightly below his highest mark and Botti clearly feels this test suits.

Side Deal made a decent racecourse bow and that should stand him in good stead for the PricedUp Daily Sports Boosts Novice Stakes.

A 280,000 guineas breeze-up buy for Amo Racing in April, Side Deal was clearly ready for action at York's Dante meeting as he came home just over a length behind subsequent Listed second First Legion.

He showed plenty of ability there, overcoming a slightly tardy start before again showing signs of inexperience towards the finish.

The education should not be lost on the Starspangledbanner colt and a repeat effort would likely be good enough here.

Code Purple is the pick in the Energy Oasis Your Net Zero Partner Handicap at Ripon.

Tried over hurdles in the winter, he seemed to appreciate running back on the level for his last two starts, most recently when coming home second at Musselburgh in April.

He raced a bit wide that day and went for home early before getting caught in the final furlong, but he gave his best and was only inched up 1lb by the handicapper.

Jumps action is on offer at both Newton Abbot and Warwick, with All Under Control taken to star at the first-named venue.

Stepping up in trip seemed to help her greatly last time out and she faces the same stamina test off an unchanged mark of 83.

At Warwick, One Cool Dreamer can kick off his career over obstacles in style in the Newton LDP Maiden Hurdle.

A dual Flat winner for Alan King, he should appreciate good ground and a two-mile distance.
