Jack Milner: Racing returns to Kenilworth on Wednesday as they gear up for a sizzling summer season but the meeting will still be run on the Winter Course.
The main event comes up in Race 4 and is a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m that has attracted a smart field of sprinters, including Grade 1 winners Russet Air and Vernichey, who will be having her first start for trainer Adam Marcus.
However, plenty is expected of Brett Crawford-trained Real Gone Kid this term. After connections opted against the big prizes on offer in KwaZulu-Natal during the winter, it could pay to follow the progress of this Snitzel colt who is out of former Cape Fillies Guineas winner In The Fast Lane.
Anton Marcus has partnered Real Gone Kid to each of his three career successes and will again be in the irons for owners Ridgemont Highlands aboard the lightly raced four-year-old.
Real Gone Kid is not rated to win this but looks well ahead of his merit rating. He is also returning from a 240-day break but Crawford has said his charge is working well.
Interestingly, his full sister makes her racecourse debut in the opener and any money for Stiptelik in Race 1 must be followed.
Another well-connected sibling to make a debut is Vanderbilt in Race 2. This son of What A Winter is a half-brother to Summer Pudding and it is worth noting trainer Justin Snaith has given the ride to his friend Bernard Fayd’Herbe who has just returned from Mauritius.
