THECLA FANCIED FOR HAMILTON STRIKE

September 2024

Kevin Ryan’s Thecla looked sure to win at Carlisle last time out only to be swamped late home by the promising Callisto Dream but can gain compensation at Hamilton.

She had made a promising start at Southwell when fifth of 11 over five furlongs and stepped up to six in Cumbria.

Having travelled strongly and started to pull away two out, Callisto Dream ultimately left her floundering in the final 100 yards.

This flatter track might help and she is clearly talented enough to win the Indigo Unified Comms EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes.

The Dragon King is dropping markedly in class for the Ecosave Installations Ltd Nursery Handicap, which can help him return to winning ways.

Wins at Doncaster and Windsor saw Clive Cox raise his sights for a valuable contest at Goodwood.

He ran a thoroughly commendable race, too, finishing sixth of 16, beaten just four lengths.

He lines up off the same mark of 84 but that was a class two event and this is a class four.

Spectacular Style is another to carry the Middleham Park Racing colours and he takes the eye in the Sir Ian Good Memorial Handicap.

Roger Varian’s charge was a course and distance winner during a promising three-year-old campaign but was late returning to action this term.

He has had a couple of blow-outs over shorter trips in better company and can hopefully now get back on track.

Cox can double up with Good Banter at Wolverhampton in the At The Races 1M Social Followers “Confined” Novice Stakes.

Totally unfancied for his Salisbury debut, he was sent off a 25-1 chance but went down by just a short head.

The winner that day held Group One entries so is clearly highly regarded, which means it was a very promising debut by Good Banter.

Sonmarg can secure a deserved success in the At The Races 1M Social Followers Handicap for Sean Woods.

The three-year-old was second for the third time this season when chasing home Whoop Whoop at Lingfield recently.

Rogue Tornado is an interesting recruit to the jumping game at Sedgefield in the Roxyfet Maiden Hurdle.

A winner at Pontefract and Leicester on the Flat, the son of Cracksman has barely run a bad race since being gelded 17 months ago and the booking of Sam Twiston-Davies for his hurdling debut only adds to the appeal.

Adrian Keatley is just as adept at winning Group races on the Flat as he is good races over hurdles.

His new recruit Cloudy View already has one bumper to his name for Paul Collins and now tries to defy a penalty in the Hardwick Grange Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Sea Journey can begin to live up to her exalted pedigree by getting off the mark at the third attempt in the British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Leicester.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden and owned by George Strawbridge, the daughter of Sea The Stars is out of the mare Journey.

She sported the same Strawbridge silks in a stellar racing career which saw her win the Fillies & Mares race at Ascot on Champions Day and several other notable contests.

Sea Journey only made it to the track once last year for a late-season maiden, but it was a race full of promise when fourth at Newmarket over seven furlongs.

Not seen again until Lingfield earlier this month, she has clearly been tricky to train but to be beaten just a neck by an 84-rated rival after the best part of a year off was an eye-catching run. An average maiden should be a formality.

The Charlie Hills-trained Elarak looks an interesting newcomer in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

A race for horses who have never run before, there are several well-bred types, as you would expect, but this Shadwell homebred perhaps takes the eye more than most.

He is by Kingman out of Tantheem, who was trained by Freddy Head to win three Group Three sprints in France and ended her career with a brilliant run in the 2018 Prix de l’Abbaye, beaten just over two lengths by Mabs Cross.
