The Winter Journey about to start

It is the best period of racing in KwaZulu-Natal with their winter season upon us now, and although a Monday meeting on the Greyville Polytrack does not set the heart a flutter there are few in-form runners who could do well.

Winter Journey, who runs in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1000m, has racked up four runner-up berths in her last four starts which suggests one of two things – either she does not possess the will to win or she deserves a change of luck.

It is a weak-looking race, so one believes the latter case will apply.

Speedy horses are hard to peg back when given a soft lead and Winter Journey could keep going and get bettors off to the best possible start.

Later on in the card there are two hat-trick-seeking runners who could pull it off under penalties.

Ride The Lightning in Race 2, a MR 73 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1000m, is one of them. This Captain Of All filly improved to win her maiden in December under Serino Moodley and then followed that with an even better performance in February, again under Moodley.

He is again aboard so one has to take the hint.

The same Moodley-Garth Puller combination is the other hat-trick seeker and that comes up in Race 7, a MR 86 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m.

Purple Nkanyezi is her name, and just like her stable companion earlier, this Oratorio mare did not look to be going anywhere until Moodley sparked some life into her when winning in February and again in March.
