The Kemble Brewery to spark Chepstow celebration

November 2025

The Kemble Brewery can make a successful start to his career over fences in the NMS UK Novices' Limited Handicap Chase on Wednesday at Chepstow.

Trainer Kim Bailey, now in partnership with his long-time assistant Mat Nicholls, has never made any secret of the regard in which he holds this six-year-old and so far he has largely lived up to the billing.

The dual bumper winner was beaten on his hurdling debut at Cheltenham but after spending almost a year on the sidelines afterwards, he showed his class with a couple of low-key victories at Worcester and Ffos Las last autumn.

He was just unfortunate to come up against a talented rival when bidding for his hat-trick at Ludlow, with the winner Meetmebythesea - to whom he was conceding around 6kg in weight - going on to finish a close third in the EBF Final at Sandown.

The Kemble Brewery was disappointingly pulled up that day, but he always looked the type to take his game to another level once encountering the larger obstacles and following a summer wind operation, he gets the chance to prove that theory correct in Monmouthshire.

The Blue Room can provide the red-hot partnership of Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen with yet another winner in the first division of the Angela Nettlefold Memorial 'National Hunt' Maiden Hurdle.

The point-to-point graduate shaped well in three bumper starts last season, opening his account at the third attempt at Ffos Las in the spring.

That form is nothing to write home about but The Blue Room looks a smart prospect nonetheless and looks sure to make his presence felt for a yard that can do little wrong at present.

Sober Glory puts his unbeaten record and tall reputation on the line in the second division.

A £110,000 purchase after winning his sole start in the Irish point-to-point field, the five-year-old looks a good buy judged on a hat-trick of bumper wins including a Listed success at Newbury when last seen in February.

Philip Hobbs and Johnson White have been among the winners in recent weeks and Sober Glory is expected to add to their tally.

Kelpie Grey has dropped to an attractive mark ahead of the Thank You And Good Luck Persia Handicap at Musselburgh.

Jim Goldie's five-year-old won twice at this track last season and completed a hat-trick off a rating of 78 at Ayr.

Although he has yet to add to his tally this term, he has been placed on a number of occasions and can be forgiven a couple of disappointing recent efforts in very testing conditions.

The handicapper has given Kelpie Grey a real chance by dropping him to 73, 5lb below his last winning mark, while his rider Rhys Elliott takes 5lb off his back to further enhance his chances.

Goldie might also be among the winners at Nottingham, with his Trojan Sun of obvious interest in the Goodbye & Thank You Billy Jackson-Stops Handicap.

This gelding has enjoyed an excellent season, scoring three times at Musselburgh before bolting up by 12 lengths here a fortnight ago.

He made light work of the heavy ground that day and a 6lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from following up.

All-weather action comes from Kempton, where Mick Appleby's Coul Angel can make it two course-and-distance wins in the space of a week in the Try Unibet's New Improved Acca Boosts Handicap. - Press Association
