Tennet Tentennet for Kranji success

August 2024

Singapore racing continues on Sunday featuring a 10-race turf and dirt fixture.

Four-year-old gelding TENNET TENTENNET is set to give trainer Leslie Khoo his sixth win of the season as he lines up in the $50,000 Class 4 Handicap over 1600m on the Polytrack.

A Polytrack specialist, TENNET TENTENNET has a commendable record of three wins and four placings from eight starts on this surface. After an encouraging first-up performance in early July, where he settled towards the rear from a wide draw but surged home to finish a close second, just 0.8 lengths behind the winner, he looks primed for a strong showing.

This week, TENNET TENTENNET finds himself well-placed in a field where many of his competitors finished well behind him last time out. In what is expected to be a wide-open card with five of the 10 races being Class 5, he looks to be the best bet of the day.

Handy sprinter STOP THE WATER is poised to make amends for his last-start defeat in Race 6 on Sunday. In his most recent outing, a slow start hindered his ability to utilize his preferred front-running style. Despite this, he finished strongly, securing a solid fourth place over 1200m at this track. With a clean getaway, he should be able to set the pace on his own terms and will take some beating.

In Race 8, NORDIC STAR is aiming for his first local win in his second start at Kranji. Once a Listed winner in Uruguay and a Class 4 winner in Hong Kong, he caught the eye with a fast-finishing fifth over 1200m on his local debut two weeks ago. In addition, the slow tempo of the race made his effort more compelling.

The switch to the Polytrack is intriguing, as all four of his career wins have come on all-weather surfaces. Based on his performances in Hong Kong, he should have a rating edge over his rivals in Class 4. - iRACE magazine
