Trainer Sean Tarry has an incredible record when it comes to the big race days and the maestro has done it again by claiming the R780,000 first prize for the connections of Bless My Stars in the Grade 1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic.
Paying R10 for the win on the tote, it's obvious that she was not nearly as fancied as Stuart Pettigrew's Feather Boa and the Mike and Adam Azzie trained Lady Of Power.
But Tarry knows how to prep his runners for the big stage.
"I had to have a big chance," said Tarry after the race. "To be honest, I was quite surprised that we were a 10-1 chance given the fact that we were interfered with in the closing stages of the Guineas and we came in here with the number one draw.
"But we are not bookmakers. We are just here to train them.
"I'm very thankful for the result."
Feather Boa finished 0,05-lengths behind in second with None Other, trained by Lucky Houdalakis, trailing in 2,2-lengths further back in third.
With this victory, Tarry completed a treble of wins on the day with four races still to be run.
After the third leg of the Pick 6, there were 7,427 live tickets with the provisional minimum payout on R805.
