Jack Milner: Movie director Quentin Tarantino is famous for movies such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Django Unchained.
His equine namesake will be unleashed on the Fairview turf track on Friday and will be hard to peg back in Race 6, a Novice Plate over 1200m.
The Justin Snaith-trained gelding has some decent form and has finished runner-up three times behind East Coast Champion Three-Year-Old Global Drummer.
The four-year-old also looked an unlucky loser of his latest start when touched off by Enrique. This 1200m is probably a bit short of his ideal trip but an aggressive ride from jockey Richard Fourie should ensure victory.
Tarantino is the best weighted runner by at least 4kg which is going to make him very hard to beat, but for those taking bigger permutations it could be wise to include Alan Greeff-trained Glacier Gold. This What A Winter filly has been holding her form well in the Western Cape and is making her local debut.
She has been running in decent company in the Western Cape, is distance suited and gets a 2.5kg sex allowance which makes her the next best weighted runner.
Greg Cheyne has ridden her on five occasions in Cape Town and knows her well.
Cheyne will also be on Regimental in Race 7, a MR 90 Handicap over 1200m. He has ridden him to four victories since the five-year-old Captain Al gelding joined the Greeff stable.
Although the majority of his victories have been on the Polytrack, he has won twice on the turf so the surface does not appear to trouble him.
An interesting runner comes up in Race 8 where King Julian makes his debut for trainer Juan Nel. He looks to be a division better than his rivals and is expected make to it a winning introduction.
