Bettors are faced with a highly competitive race meeting at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday but many bettors will be relying on Justin Snaith to get them off to a good start and help build up a kitty for the remainder of the day.
Well-bred Phil The Fluter rates the one to beat in Race 1, a Work Riders’ Maiden Plate over 1100m. The Vercingetorix gelding caught the eye in a stronger contest when finishing third beaten only 1.30 lengths by well-drawn promising debutant Elizabedi Gold from an outside stall over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
He had well-backed runners Krim, Beautiful Winter and Fencing Captain, all from better draws, beaten and this form line could produce a few winners.
He has some stamina in his pedigree and should enjoy the 1100m, but most importantly, he has landed the plum No 1 stall.
Snaith could double up in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1800m where he has two runners, Ardabil and Courtly, but with Richard Fourie aboard Courtly, who has finished runner-up in his last two races, he could be the pick of the pair.
The Master Of My Fate gelding finished a 0.50-length second behind Commander Green in his penultimate start over 1800m and was then caught late over 2000m to go down by 1.25 lengths to Sansa Stark.
Both of those races were at Durbanville and the three-year-old is likely to benefit to the change to a more galloping track.
Ardabil, a gelded son of Danon Platina who has Grant van Niekerk up, ranged up to Candice Bass Robinson’s highly regarded Major Master before ducking inwards due to greenness and losing ground. He then came again but by then the 1400m race was over and he finished 3.25 lengths behind Pinot Grigio with Major Master in second.
Ardabil has scope for improvement and both his running style and pedigree suggest a lot more to come over this longer distance.
