HERE’S A GOOD WEEKEND MENU TO BET ON WITH TAB
A nice variety of racing locally and internationally this weekend, starting this Friday with a possible duel in the November Stakes at Fairview and the running of Bahrain’s richest race. There are standalone meetings at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday and Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, both with challenging Pick 6 races. Plus there’s action over jumps at Cheltenham, where champion jumper Jonbon returns on Friday and capable mare July Flower races on Saturday, both in preparation for the 2026 Cheltenham Festival.
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
FAIRVIEW: TOP STABLES TO FIGHT OUT NOVEMBER STAKES
Alan Greeff’s Fairy Knight is a short odds-on favourite to win Race 4, the November Stakes over 1400m. This contest invariably draws some of the Eastern Cape’s best older horses with past winners including Global Drummer, Khaya’s Hope and Celtic Fire. Greeff’s smart filly, Luna Halo, was beaten by outsider Passchendaele last year and the stable has most to fear this year from Dean Smith’s USA’s Hope, who is perhaps less talented but has a pull at the weights. He was placed in two legs of the recent Polytrack series and is almost certain to play a role in the outcome.
CHELTENHAM: CHAMP JONBON FOR WINNING RETURN
Trainer Nicky Henderson reports that star jumper Jonbon is in fine order ahead of his seasonal reappearance in Race 4, the Grade 2 Shloer Chase over 3200m. The 18-time-winning nine-year-old underwent a wind operation following his last start in April 2025, when finishing second to Il Etait Temps in the Celebration Chase at Sandown. Having captured the last two renewals of this key Cheltenham Festival prep, Jonbon bids for a remarkable hat-trick and stable confidence suggests he’s on track to deliver it.
BAHRAIN: UK RAIDER LOOKS GOOD IN BAHRAIN TROPHY
Ralph Beckett’s smart Pride Of Arras, winner of the Dante Stakes and Great Voltigeur, jets in for the Group 1 Bahrain International Trophy over 2000m(Race 8). He is one of the top three-year-olds in Britain and is an interesting runner after connections paid $20,000 to supplement him. He can go well fresh, so there should be no fears about his fitness after a three-month break. This lightly raced son of New Bay has a sharp turn of foot and in a stellar line-up he is one to consider under regular rider Rossa Ryan and getting 1.5kg from his seven rivals.
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
SHA TIN: AERIS NOVA MAY HAVE EDGE FROM INSIDE DRAW
Promising Patch Of Stars gets a genuine test rising to Class 2 in the topliner over 1200m (Race 7), but faces strong opposition from Aeris Nova, who makes most appeal reverting to 1200m. His first-up fourth to Tomodachi Kokoroe from barrier 12 was an excellent run and he followed that with a narrow defeat to Light Years Charm over 1400m last week. From the best of draws, he has every chance to park in the perfect spot and make it count. The meeting starts at 07:00.
HOLLYWOODBETS KENILWORTH: KANNEMEYER TO RULE IN THE CAPE
Dean Kannemeyer’s Cape Guineas prospect Gimmie Rules goes to post in the day’s feature, Race 3 over 1400m. He worked alongside stablemate The Real Prince in a prep gallop last week and Kannemeyer said: "I specifically wanted a quality horse who would pull the youngster through. He acquitted himself well. This race will bring him on nicely."
Gimmie Rules has a strong older rival in Des Maclachlan’s Jet Force, a lightly raced four-year-old who has three wins to show from four starts. Strong front-runner San Pedro also has a shout with a handy galloping weight. Another Kannemeyer-trained runner, Gallic Victor, could be a Pick 6 banker in Race 5 over 1950m. He runs on over shorter and looks ideally suited to the trip.
SUGGESTED R180 (10%) PICK 6 PERM (Leg 1 Race 4 @ 14:25):
Leg 1: FIELD (1-9)
Leg 2: 9
Leg 3: 1, 3, 5, 8, 9
Leg 4: FIELD (1-10)
Leg 5: 4
Leg 6: 1, 5, 6, 7
CHELTENHAM: JULY FLOWER LOOKS SET TO BLOSSOM
Henry De Bromhead’s July Flower has been a terrific mare throughout her career, finishing outside the top three in only four of her 15 starts and winning six of them. She heads the market in Race 3, a Grade 2 contest over 3200m, and De Bromhead commented: "We are delighted with her. She seems to love jumping fences. She was electric in a beginner’s chase the other day."
SUNDAY HIGHLIGHTS
PERAK: CONSISTENT NOAH KHAN COULD WIN AGAIN
Talented seven-year-old Noah Khan can extend his lucrative run this season when he contests Race 10, the Singapore Pools Trophy over 1200m. Noah Khan reached the pinnacle of his career with an impressive victory in the Group 1 Tunku Gold Cup over 1200m last March. He has maintained consistent form since with three wins and four placings from nine starts. Race 1 is at 06:45.
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE: BANK ON THE DE KOCK DUO
Bristol Hercules has finished in the placings in all five starts since joining Mike and Mathew de Kock, who have fancied his chances of winning on several occasions. His recent narrow defeat to smart Forward Motion from a wide draw was another solid effort and he now gets a prime opportunity for redemption in Race 6 over 1400m. This is arguably the weakest field he has faced this year and from the inside barrier he ranks a banker bet. Stable companion Queen Braganza contests Race 7 over the same trip for the same owners and could complete a quick double for the yard.
