Symphony to hit winning note

April 2022

Symphony Perfect has been brought to concert pitch by Richard Hannon and can land the best race of the day in the UK on Thursday, the Listed IRE-Incentive, It Pays To Buy Irish Chelmer Fillies' Stakes.

A six-furlong (1200m) contest for three-year-olds, Symphony Perfect has already had one run under her belt this season, finishing a close-up fifth to Wild Beauty in the Group Three Fred Darling at Newbury.

She held every chance in that seven-furlong (1400m) event, but having led inside the final furlong (200m), she weakened in the final 100 yards.

The daughter of Fast Company had a busy juvenile campaign, running 11 times and scoring twice, including when signing off the season with victory in the Listed Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket in October.

She appears to have trained on and while this is her first try on an artificial surface, she lacks nothing for fitness and may well start the tide turning for the yard, who have not been in pristine early-season form.

Hesperantha did not have the cleanest of paths on her second start in a mile (1600m) maiden at Kempton last time, but stayed on nicely to get within a nose of the highly-regarded Guilin.

The Andrew Balding-trained daughter of The Gurkha showed the penny had dropped following a modest introduction at Wolverhampton and the step up to 10 furlongs (2000m) in the Ladies Day Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes would appear to suit.

Anything Clarets Glory achieved as a juvenile was a bonus, so a win in a Pontefract novice was jam on top. He begins his three-year-old campaign in the one-mile (1600m) Watch Racing TV in Stunning HD Handicap at Redcar, a more realistic target than his previous race, where he was well beaten in a hugely-competitive Newmarket sales race in October.

Trying a mile (1600m) for the first time, if settling well enough, Michael Dods' runner could strike on his seasonal bow.

Comedian Leader was well supported for her second start but still looked a little green in defeat at Pontefract.

Alice Haynes has her string in good form and the Aclaim filly should appreciate a sound surface this time as she bids to get off the mark in the five-furlong (1000m) Join Racing TV Half Price Now Selling Stakes.

She looks to have the beating of those who have previously run and has added bonus of Oisin McSweeney taking off a valuable 5lb.

The consistent Can Can Girl will make a bold bid to follow up her Beverley handicap success off a 3lb higher mark in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap at Musselburgh.

David Brown's four-year-old seeks a third win in four in the extended mile-and-a-half (2400m) event, which represents a small step up in class from her previous runs.

Though she travelled well before hanging a bit in victory, she was always doing enough to score and a similar level of form should mean she is thereabouts again.

Tomorrow's Angel shoulders top weight in the two-mile (3200m) Miller Homes Handicap, yet the seven-year-old course-and-distance winner invariably runs well fresh and is worthy of consideration in a race that will not take a lot of winning.

Audience may have been beaten at odds-on on his seasonal return at Newmarket but he can make amends in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Novice Stakes at Lingfield, where March Moon could give the John and Thady Gosden team a double, as she is expected to come on for her Leicester run and strike in the At The Races App Market Movers Novice Stakes.

The third day of the Punchestown Festival sees Sire De Berlais bidding to follow up his Liverpool Hurdle success in the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle.

Gordon Elliott's runner may have to play second fiddle to Klassical Dream, who was sent off favourite for the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham and was a little too keen when fifth to Flooring Porter.

Though Sire De Berlais subsequently beat Flooring Porter at Aintree, preference is for Willie Mullins' star, who comes into this a fresher horse.

Mullins holds the key to the other Grade One on the card, saddling four of the seven runners in the Barberstown Castle Novices' Chase and Gentlemen De Mee can supplement his Maghull Novices' Chase win at Aintree with another success and take his winning streak to four over fences. - Press Association
