Strydom’s Tribe looks best in Fairview 1900

December 2023

Jack Milner

When it comes to feature races at Fairview, the majority are won by either Alan Greeff or Gavin Smith or a visiting trainer from the Western Cape.

So perhaps we can celebrate an alternative outcome on Friday and see Jacques Strydom capture the Fairview 1900 where he saddles Gallic Tribe.

Robert Khathi takes the ride on the six-year-old son of Vercingetorix who has quite a decent record on the turf track at Fairview. He has been campaigning over much shorter but Gallic Tribe caught the eye two runs back when finishing a 1.75-length third behind Future Swing in the Listed Algoa Cup over 2000m.

In his next start over 1600m on the Polytrack he ran a 1.50-length third behind Perfection which was also a decent enough effort. However, he looks a better bet on the turf because in his six starts on this course, Gallic Tribe has had two wins and three places.

Alan Greeff holds a decent hand with three runners – Heathcliff, Bournemouth and Global Alley and it is the latter, with Richard Fourie up, who looks the major threat to Gallic Tribe.

This is Global Alley’s toughest task so far but he may well be up to it.
