Muzi can strike gold in the Cape

August 2025

The Western Cape lost a race meeting last Saturday due to a wet track and hopefully the weather will hold off so that Tuesday’s meeting at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth can go ahead.

Champion trainer Justin Snaith has started the season where he left off last season, saddling four winners last Wednesday and the good trend looks likely to continue tomorrow.

He has some decent runners and Muzi Yeni could be a beneficiary of this good run as he has picked up some good rides for the Snaith yard.

His best could be Gold Giboski in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1400m. The son of Gold Standard has displayed promise in each of his four appearances last season as a two-year-old, finishing fourth on debut over 1100m and a close-up third in all three subsequent outings from 1000m to 1600m. He lost little in defeat last time out when beaten 1.05 lengths by an older rival to whom he conceded 1.5kg.

Gold Giboski need not improve much - if at all - to open his account on his seasonal three-year-old debut.

Stablemate Yamazaki fits a similar profile and should break his duck under JP van der Merwe in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1600m. This Danon Platina colt has made marked improvement in his last two starts over the same distance and a repeat of either performance should suffice in Leg 1 of Jackpot 1.

Yeni could also be on the mark in Race 7, a Class 4 Handicap over 1100m, where he rides recent maiden winner Blind Date for the Snaith yard. One of three last-start winners in the lineup, this promising three-year-old Futura colt has most scope for improvement in just his third racecourse appearance.

Snaith has four of the eight runners in Race 5, a B Stakes over 1600m, but Andre Nel-trained Kamchatka is weighted to win this and looks hard to beat.
