A seven-race programme on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville will be staged on Wednesday and there look to be decent betting opportunities.
All of Strutting (Race 1), Malshana Mou (Race 4) and Circumbendibus (Race 6) rate as leading contenders.
Strutting, who lines up in an Open Maiden over 1400m, missed by just 0.25 lengths in her second start which was from a wide stall over this course and distance, going down to a runner who was ideally drawn.
The Mike and Mathew de Kock-trained filly was upped to 1600m on the turf in her next start but appeared to hit the front a touch too early and got caught late. Once again, she will be taking on males but will be ridden by log-leading jockey Craig Zackey for the first time.
Malshana Mou lines up in a Class 4 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1000m and will also have Zackey in the irons.
She was quite inexperienced at the start but in her second run as a three-year-old she ran out an easy maiden winner. The Vercingetorix filly is obviously maturing and has more to come.
She was penalised just 0.5kg for that win which augurs well for her handicap debut, and this Louis Goosen-trained filly also has the benefit of jumping from barrier No 1.
She is meeting a lot stronger this time, but most are exposed and some with decent form have drawn wide, so she can be given every chance of following up.
Another of Vercingetorix’s progeny, Circumbendibus, looked totally underrated when skipping away an impressive winner last time, even though he was bumped up to a much stronger division.
The four-year-old chestnut gelding may have been unsuited to the tracks in the Western Cape but after winning three of his five starts in KwaZulu-Natal, his merit rating has jumped from 77 to 92 and it doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon.
He will be lining up in a B Stakes over 1200m and from No 2 draw, Glen Kotzen’s charge looks hard to oppose. He will be reunited with jockey Cole Dicken who rode him to victory last time.
