Stormy to make Pontefract Impact

August 2025

Stormy Impact can secure herself some valuable black type with victory in the EBF Highfield Farm Flying Fillies' Stakes on Sunday at Pontefract.

Richard Fahey's charge proved frustrating to follow in the early part of her career, finishing a half-length second on her debut before being beaten a short head on each of her next two starts.

However, she performed with credit in a Group Three at Ayr last autumn and deservedly signed off her juvenile campaign with a first win at Musselburgh shortly afterwards.

Stormy Impact has plied her trade in competitive sprint handicaps so far this season with varying success, showing her worth when landing the 3YO "Dash" Handicap at Epsom on Derby day and when landing a lucrative Racing League prize at Wolverhampton last time.

Her two runs in between at Ascot were not so good, but she was drawn on the wrong side on one occasion and encountered trouble in running on the other, as can happen in big-field races in Berkshire.

A rating of 96 coupled with her three-year-old allowance gives Stormy Impact every chance of claiming Listed honours in West Yorkshire.

Precious Spartan appears well placed to continue his productive campaign in the Napoleons Casino Bradford Handicap.

The three-year-old has won three of his four starts since joining Patrick Neville, rising from a lowly mark of 48 to his current perch of 68 in the process.

He is up 3lb for his latest success at Ripon, which does not look insurmountable by any stretch.

The Ollie Sangster-trained Kentucky River has to be of huge interest in the Pontefract Races True Yorkshireman Package Handicap.

The gelded son of Camelot ran a fine race on his first start over an extended 3200m at Doncaster last time, finishing a clear second behind Belgravian, who has since bolted up off a 6lb higher mark.

Kentucky River has gone up a couple of pounds himself, but there should be more to come after just four lifetime starts on turf, especially over marathon trips.

Dandy's Rocket began life in handicaps from a low base when scoring at Leicester last month and can follow up in the Flame UK 10th Anniversary Trophy Nursery Handicap at Southwell.

In truth there was not much encouragement to be taken from the juvenile's three outings in maiden company, but he was gelded before his move into the handicap sphere and it seemed to do the trick as he beat a subsequent winner in Doilookokay a shade cosily.

Up 6lb, Dandy's Rocket could be the sort to run up a sequence.

Rock Iguana is expected to strike gold in the second division of the Ambitions Personnel Maiden Stakes.

An expensive yearling purchase at E575,000, the son of Wootton Bassett did not make it to track at two and was gelded before he made his belated debut at Wolverhampton in May, suggesting there may have been one or two issues along the way.

However, there was plenty of encouragement to be taken from his third-placed finish at Dunstall Park, beaten just half a length, and the winner Marty Hopkirk and the runner-up Getreadytorumble are now rated 89 and 90 respectively.

Rock Iguana is now fitted with a hood on his return from three months off, but it will be disappointing if he does not have enough about him to win a low-key race such as this. - Press Association
