STARDINIA SHOULD BE TOO HOT AT NEWBURY

June 2025

By Molly Hunter, PA

Stardinia can get off the mark at the third time of asking in the Compton Beauchamp Fillies' Restricted Novice Stakes at Newbury.

She is by first-season sire Starman - who is making a great name for himself in his second career - and has already shown form worthy of winning a race such as this.

On her debut in what look an ordinary run of the mill affair at Leicester she had the misfortune of bumping into Clive Cox's Coppull.

That form has subsequently been well franked, as despite being an unconsidered 66-1 chance in the Coventry Stakes last week Coppull finished a fine third.

Stardinia has run at Ascot since in quite a valuable affair and while she was only fifth, the form is pretty solid.

In the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes it is Eve Johnson Houghton's Mystic Moment who catches the eye.

The Time Test filly has run twice to date and been the runner-up both times, coming home a length and three quarters behind the winner on her debut at Kempton in May.

Her next run was a switch to turf at Goodwood earlier in June, where she progressed to go down by just a neck over the same six-furlong trip.

She now steps up in trip and considering her dam stayed a mile and a half, she should have no concerns with seeing out an extra furlong at Newbury.

William Haggas' Kinswoman can come good in the Download The Star Sports App Maiden Stakes over six furlongs at Brighton.

The Cheveley Park-owned and bred filly has been placed in all four runs to date, snipping down the losing margin the last twice when gaining more experience.

Over-enthusiasm has perhaps hampered her, but there is clear ability in the bloodline as she is a half-sister to six winners - including Group horses Audience and Esquire.

Jack Channon has his string in great form and Banksman can complete his hat-trick in the Star Sports Handicap.

Beaten a short head over this course and distance at the start of the month, he has since rattled up wins at Yarmouth and Lingfield.

He has to carry a 6lb penalty for the latter of those and while that will make his life tricky in a tight four-runner affair, in low-grade racing it usually pays to side with those runners in form.

Charlie Johnston has been banging in the winners in recent weeks and his Individualism could well bounce back to form in the Steve Brooks 70th Birthday Handicap at Beverley.

He tends to be a bit all or nothing and after two poor runs this season it would not be a big surprise were he to bounce back to form.

His last win came off a mark of 77 and this half-brother to Gold Cup winner Subjectivist and Sir Ron Priestley is now rated 78.

He has been competitive off marks like this in the past and dropping down in trip he might be able to dominate.
