Ever wondered what a day at the races is like? Saturday is the perfect day to find out when The Joburg Seafood & Jazz Racing Festival will be held at the Turffontein Racecourse.
You can expect exciting Derby Day racing, a feast of seafood and other gourmet delights from the seafood village, live jazz performances and loads of entertainment for children.
Enjoy the sounds of the Billy Monama Quartet, the Sisonke Xonti Quartet and the Romy Brauteseth Trio, while some of the best three-year-old horses on the Highveld vie for top honours in the two main races on the day, the Grade 1 WSB SA Derby and the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks.
An added thrill is the presence of July and Met winner Kommetdieding, known as the People’s Horse, who will be making his Highveld debut in the Grade 1 Wilgerbosdrift HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes.
“We want to bring people back to the races and we welcome everyone, including families, to experience the thrilling atmosphere of the horses and live entertainment, along with a food and drink experience,” said Fundi Sithebe, CEO of 4Racing.
“4Racing intends contributing to the transformation of the horse racing industry by including world class hospitality as part of a day at the races, as well as being a part of reviving the events industry after a couple of very tough years.”
Gates open at 11am and entertainment carries on until 7pm. Tickets cost R50 for adults and R25 for under 18s. A family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children under 12 cost R100.
Book your tickets today through Webtickets. All visitors over the age of 12 need to be fully vaccinated.
