Snowbird to get bettors off to a winning start

Favourite backers could start the day off with a bang at the seven-race meeting at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday as form runner Snowbird in Race 1 looks hard to beat.

Vaughan Marshall recently sent out two explosive runners who look possible big-race players in the near future and this time well-related filly Snowbird should show what she is made of in this Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1000m.

The What A Winter half-sister to King’s Plate runner-up and Diadem Stakes winner Questioning led for most of the way on debut and when challengers came, she did have to ease at a crucial stage of the race. She is better than the 2.85-lengths beating by fluent newcomer Shezaripper and certainly stripping fitter she will make solid improvement.

The raced runners she meets must improve by some way to be a threat but as always, respect betting support for any of the newcomers, although it will take a special effort to beat her from gate No 1.

The Night Ferry (Race 4) was returning from a rest when finishing 3.70-lengths behind District Master last time in his first run back from a short break. He showed good pace and only tired late. It was an attractive run as the Herman Brown-trained runner would have found 1400m too short and needed to overcome a wide gate.

The strong frontrunner will get to the lead for nothing from draw No 1 over the more suitable 1800m. Now in an arguably a weaker field he could be difficult to catch with a 4kg apprentice claim boosting his chances.
