Snaith in the groove at Durbanville

Two fillies with Classic potential looked set to clash in Race 9 at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday as Justin Snaith-trained I’m So Pritti and Brett Crawford’s charge Artiste both were carded for in this Class 4 event for fillies and mares over 1250m.

However, the scratching of Artiste has paved the way for Snaith’s charge and the daughter of Vercingetorix looks likely to improve on her maiden win over this course and distance.

She was sent off favourite at 4-10 and made no mistake, romping home by four lengths over Berry’s Boogie.

Interestingly Richard Fourie, who teered I'm So Pritti to her maiden victory last month, was carded to ride Artiste so JP van der Merwe will take the ride.

Snaith could also be on the mark earlier on the card when he sends out well-bred Groovejet in Race 6, a Cape C Stakes over 2000m by turning the tables on Crawford's Join The Dots, who scored by 1.75 over the same track and trip four weeks ago but is 3kg worse off under a six-point penalty.

Snaith's charge, a progressive and lightly raced four-year-old (much like Join The Dots), was left with too much to do last time. He ran on from a long way back on that occasion, but Van der Merwe will have his mount poised to strike from a No 9 gate, inside of his familiar foe who is drawn on his outside.
