Snaith, Bass-Robinson to dominate
Jockey Aldo Domeyer has just three rides at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday, all for Candice Bass-Robinson, including one of the better bets on the card in promising three-year-old Major Master in Race 1 over 1400m.
This Master Of My Fate colt caught the eye on debut when dropped out from a wide draw over 1250m before running on smartly to finish a close-up third, beaten less than length (0.70 lengths) by Let It Be Said.
With that experience to count on and the form of that race boosted by the subsequent success of fourth-placed Sir Korski, Major Master is an attractive betting proposition in the opener, especially given the likelihood of improvement over this extended trip.
Well-bred stablemate Daimyo, a progressive four-year-old Vercingetorix gelding out of Grade 1 SA Fillies Classic and Grade 2 Oaks winner Juxtapose (by Judpot), finished ahead of King Pelles and Gimme More Time over 1800m in early September renews rivalry with those familiar foes on identical weight terms in Race 4 over 2000m.
Daimyo will be more at home over the extra 200m, having won his previous start over 2200m, so should confirm his superiority over those familiar foes under champion jockey Richard Fourie, this one for the Justin Snaith yard.
Improving Act Of War gelding Courtly is likely to follow suit for the same jockey-trainer combination in Race 5 over the same distance. This free-striding chestnut three-year-old was a game-in-defeat second over 1800m three weeks ago and the step up to 2000m is expected to unlock further improvement from the Snaith inmate, who finished more than four lengths ahead of subsequent maiden winner (sixth-place finisher) Happy Days.
