Smith to get bettors off to a good start at Fairview
November 2020
Jack Milner: Trainer Gavin Smith was going through a tough period a while back but it is good to see a member of a great Port Elizabeth racing family has the quality of stock again to renew rivalry with a member of another PE dynasty, Alan Greeff.
Smith can get punters off to a good start at Fairview today by winning the first two races on the card. They race on the Polytrack, and Smith sends out Forest Of Green in Race 1 a Maiden Plate over 1000m.
The son of Gimmethegreenlight has been holding his form well enough and the drop in the distance to 1000m clearly suits. He will be ridden by Marco van Rensburg and looks to be the best bet on a card.
In Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 2000m, Smith saddles Ford Wintie, who has improved markedly since having been gelded and tried over further. The Elusive Fort gelding looks to have more room for improvement than the balance of his opposition.
He will have the benefit of a 4kg claimer in Yuzae Ramzan and that should add impetus to his winning chances.
Interestingly, Smith and Van Rensburg could also close off the meeting when they team up with Intrepid Traveller in Race 9, a MR 70 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m.
The daughter of Querari has only raced five times for a win and a place but she put up a great run last time over the course and distance when a 1.75-length fourth behind Beneficiary in her second run after a layoff.
A winner has come from that form line and with 3kg less to carry, Intrepid Traveller looks great each-way value at her current odds of 6-1.
