Jack Milner: Trainer Gavin Smith looks set for another decent day at Fairview on Friday and Cairon looks the best of his runners.
Cairon, who contests Race 5, a MR 76 Handicap over 1800m, has been quite phenomenal since moving to the Eastern Cape and is seeking a hat-trick of wins.
Cairon only won by 0.50 lengths over 1600m in his penultimate start but was doing his best work at the finish.
He showed further improvement thereafter as he was an impressive winner over 1800m in his next start. Although he has accumulated eight points in penalties for those two wins, that may not be enough to stop him against mainly battling rivals.
Smith also has some promising three-year-olds in Race 2 in the form of Safari Blue and Peace In Our World. They do, however, come up against Herodotus, so this should be a good yardstick to measure their ability.
Perhaps Smith will be looking beyond Friday’s encounter as he sizes up his three-year-olds with an eye on feature races later this season.
