Silver Falcon can fly at Fairview

December 2024

It has been some time since Justin Snaith-trained Silver Falcon has won a race but he has a decent enough record on the Polytrack and can bounce back to take out Race 7, the Founders Trophy (Non-Black Type) over 1600m at Fairview on Friday.

The Silvano gelding has taken a disliking to blinkers so his 13th-place finish recently over 1100m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth is best ignored.

He should rather be judged on his third-place finish behind King Regent in the third leg of the Poly Challenge 1400 at this track.

That run over 1400m was a very good performance and the form of the race has stood up well.

Silver Falcon had previously run Questioning to 1.25 lengths over HWB Durbanville 1250m on 7 September.

The now six-year-old gelding has eight wins in his 30 starts and his record on the Polytrack is two wins and a third in just three starts.

Jockey Craig Zackey gets a ride and he has been aboard on one other occasion and that was in June when he finished a two-length fifth behind Sugar Mountain.

It is a tough race to pick any obvious dangers to him but there are a couple of runners worth mentioning.

Firealley has improved of late and was a well-backed winner of the Listed Algoa Cup last time out. That was over 2000m and Zackey rode him on that occasion.

Blackberry Malt is consistent and is 1kg better off for his 0.75-length defeat by Firealley so can turn the tables on that rival

Blackberry Malt is right at home over this distance so is clearly not out of it

Earlier in the day, Race 6, a MR 90 Handicap over 1200m, most pundits will be looking to USA's Hope as the best banker for all the exotics.

Trainer Gavin Smith put blinkers on the gelding on his local debut and the well-backed The United States gelding ran out an impressive winner.

That was his first Polytrack victory in just his third start. Zackey knows this gelding well and retains the ride.
