Scottsville meeting moved to Greyville

December 2022

Jack Milner

Wet weather in KwaZulu-Natal has once again forced a venue change as the meeting scheduled for Scottsville on Wednesday has been moved to the turf track at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

The penetrometer reading at Hollywoodbets Scottsville was 38 with some areas recording 42 while the Greyville reading is 31. Current weather in Durban is warm with a strong breeze so with a forecast of 29 degrees Celsius, the chances of the track drying up further is good.

Race 4 will now be run over 1800m and Race 5 over 2000m. Times remain as carded.

Garth Puller is having an excellent season so far and at the time of writing he is the leading trainer in KwaZulu-Natal.

He has saddled 285 runners with 34 winners, a percentage of 11.93, with 95 places, giving him a win/place percentage of 45.26. His accumulated prize money, which is the criterion by which trainers are judged nationally, is R2,756,600, putting him R636,700 clear of second-placed Kom Naidoo.

His success has put him in 10th place on the national trainers’ log.

Puller should keep his advantage going into the new year and could actually extended his lead today as he sends out some promising runners.

Corsican could be one of his best in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1400m. It does look quite open but although Eightfold Path gelding has run most of his race on the Polytrack it is worth taking into account that in his lone run on turf over 1200m saw him finish a 1.90-length second behind Forgotten Path.

That run was in yielding going so Corsican will not be averse to any give in the ground.

Most importantly Corsican was second to Paris Pike, who has gone on to win again.

Ant Mgudlwa is in the irons and will jump from No 1 draw.
