Say hello to Sayonara at Selangor

November 2024

Selangor racing continues on Sunday featuring a thrilling nine-race card with highly competitive action expected throughout the day.

Nine-year-old galloper Sayonara is on track for consecutive victories as he lines up in the 1275m Class 5A contest at Kuala Lumpur.

Sayonara has had two starts in the country, including his local debut on 13 October, where he resumed from a three-month break as the RM 7 favourite. The Sharee Hamilton- trained gelding closed from midfield to finish runner-up behind Golden Eighteen, beaten by four lengths. He quickly bounced back in Penang two weeks ago, delivering a dominant eight-length victory in soft going over 1300m.

With the 3kg apprentice claim for Tuan Ammar, Sayonara looks a tough competitor once again this Sunday.

Former Singapore galloper Wednesday looks a value choice in the opening event of the day. His form has dipped in recent starts at Kranji, but thanks to the shared ratings system between Singapore and Malaysia, he appears set to face a weaker field as he begins his Malaysia racing career in Class 5B.

With tactical speed, he has the potential to cause an upset if granted a soft lead against some of the more fancied rivals.

Blue Angel formerly raced in Singapore and showed improvement at his second start in Malaysia, settling just off the pace and holding on well for a close second over 1500m at this track. If not for racing wide early that day, he likely would have won.

The step up to 1700m works in his favour this week, and with better luck in running, he has a strong chance to make amends in Race 9. - iRACE Magazine
