Andrew Fortune returns to racing at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday just two months after a horrendous fall which to quote Fortune himself, “I broke everything”.

Many people felt that would bring an end to the 58-year-old’s riding career but they all underestimated the resilience of Fortune.

He has two rides for trainer Justin Snaith, the first being From the Island in Race 3 and the second aboard Future Free, a half-brother to Eight On Eighteen, in Race 8.

They both have winning chances but both races are competitive and Fortune might need to be at his best to bring them home.

However, one could still keep it all in the family as his son, Aldo Domeyer, has some fine chances to find the winners’ enclosure.

He teams up as usual with trainer Candice Bass, and their best could be South Of France in Race 7, a Class 5 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1400m.

This three-year-old daughter of Querari could have the word “consistency” as her middle name. She has only raced nine times for a win, two seconds, five thirds and a fourth place (that was on debut).

She has run twice over this course and distance for a second and a third, beaten just 1.55 lengths the first time and finishing a one-length runner-up behind Gine Palace in her penultimate start.

Her last run, which was over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville, also saw her run second, this time finishing one length behind Star World, drawn on the outside of the seven-horse field.

The one change Bass has made to her charge this time is that she will be fitted with blinkers, and that could just do the trick. In addition, she is ideally drawn in gate No 2.
