Revival to Power up in Flying Childers at Doncaster

September 2025

Revival Power looks the perfect type on breeding and there is plenty of substance to her form to suggest she is the one to beat in the Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster on Friday.

Tim Easterby's Bungle Inthejungle filly is a full sister to Winter Power, also trained by Easterby for the same King Power connections, who was also a very speedy juvenile and won the Nunthorpe at three.

One of the most notable things about Winter Power was just how durable she was in her early days - she had nine races at two, so while winning the Nunthorpe at three is rare, she went there having had more races than many older horses.

It's clear she improved with each and every start, not winning until her third outing, but by her eighth she was a Listed winner and her final juvenile start saw her strike gold in Group Three company.

It seems Revival Power is more precocious, winning on debut before disappointing in the Queen Mary, but she bounced back to be second to Spicy Marg at Goodwood and won the Listed Roses Stakes at York, beating colts in the process.

She is very fast, very tough and this does not look the strongest Flying Childers ever run given the well fancied Lady Iman had a bad experience in the Nunthorpe.

Sunway's undoubted class might just enable him to last home in the Betfred Howard Wright Doncaster Cup.

David Menuisier's four-year-old has only won two of his 16 races but that record is not a true reflection of his ability.

A Group One winner in France at two, he was second to Los Angeles in the Irish Derby the following summer and was awarded third in the St Leger here 12 months ago after suffering interference.

This season he has seemed a bit 'trip-less' as he appears to lack the gears required against the best middle-distance horses and he appeared not to get home when tried over 3200m at Goodwood.

In hindsight though, being beaten less than four lengths by the red-hot St Leger favourite Scandinavia in the Goodwood Cup giving him a stone was probably a good effort.

Karl Burke has an incredible team of juveniles this season and Hankelow looked another way above average one when winning on his debut at York.

That was back in June and this 750,000 guineas Night Of Thunder colt has been given plenty of time to strengthen up.

Burke's comments after his first run were interesting in that due to the dry summer that was his first ever time on the grass and he expected him to improve a great deal.

It will be interesting to see how Hankelow fares upped in class for the Betfred Flying Scotsman Stakes.

Dermot Weld has booked William Buick for Duraji in the Betfred Mallard Handicap, suggesting a big run is in the offing.

The four-year-old is regally bred being a son of Dubawi out of the trainer's Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Nightime, making him a full-brother to none other than Ghaiyyath, himself now a classy stallion.

Duraji looked very promising when winning on his second start last June but then had nearly a year off before returning with three lacklustre efforts when he only finished in front of one horse.

Last time out, though, he showed some ability remains when fourth of 14 to Sam Hawkens at Goodwood and he runs off the same mark here. - Press Association
