Real Stunner stands out in the Cape

There are plenty of exciting contests in the nine-race programme at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Monday.

Interestingly the best bet on the day, Real Stunner, jumps from the widest gate in his heat but it nevertheless looks the right race for him to get it right.

Real Stunner, who lines up in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1400m, has been tough to follow since a promising second place finish in his second start. But it was well documented that a few Western Cape yards, notably that of trainer Brett Crawford, went through a rough patch near the end of last year and took a few months to recover.

Real Stunner, bred in the purple being a son of Oratorio out a Galileo mare, came back to form running two decent races in a row but Crawford, who has rated him highly, decided to put a hold on his racing in order to geld him.

He is back from a two-month break and could return a different horse. And while he has drawn widest in stall No 9, he won’t need to improve much as he doesn’t look to be meeting readied runners.

Louie Mxothwa has ridden him in four of his six starts and will be back in the irons once again.
