Betway Joburg Spring Challenge approaches on October 5, 2024, excitement is building for a key race day at Turffontein. With a stakes increase taking the two feature races on the day to a total of R1 Million, 4Racing and Betway are showing their commitment to elevating South African horse racing. This race meeting brings an end to Betway’s larger Spring Series, which spanned 14 race meetings, leading up to the Africa’s Richest Race, the R6 million Betway Summer Cup on 30 November.
Turffontein Racecourse will host a 9-race programme, starting at 11h50 and lead up to the 2 feature races on the day: The Betway Joburg Spring F&M Challenge Grade 2 (14h45) and the Betway Joburg Spring Challenge Grade 2 (15h20). The stakes for the Betway Joburg Spring Challenge have been boosted from R400 000 to R550 000; this is in addition to the R150 000 stake increase to the Betway Joburg Spring F&M Challenge stakes taking it to R450 000.

Crowds will be interested to see if Main Defender can defend his Betway Joburg Spring Challenge title. Spectators can expect thrilling racing as many of the Highveld’s quality horses start their Summer Campaigns, making for an exciting Saturday event at Turffontein.

Betway increased the stakes of both features on Spring Challenge Day by R150 000 each. The Spring Challenge stake is now R550 000 (Previously R400 000) and the Spring F&M Challenge stake is R450 000 (previously R300 000). Thus, the total stake for the two features is R1 million.
