R6 betting unit on races in Victoria and South Australia

September 2023

The next instalment of the 2023 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival unfolds at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday, when the R9-million Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m headlines the best racing action Australia has to offer.

The Carnival kicked off this month and horseracing fans will be treated to a stream of high-quality races all the way into December, including world-famous events like the Melbourne Cup at Flemington and the WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Saturday’s Flemington action comprises a 10-race programme with the Grade 1 topliner backed by two Grade 2 contests.

TAB4 racing customers can take commingled Win, Place, Exacta and Trifecta bets on the meeting, as well as a Jackpot on the last four races and a Double on the last two. All the action will be televised live on Racing 240 on DStv from 04:10.

TAB customers must please note that betting pools on Thoroughbred races in Victoria and South Australia are commingled into Australian B pools and not Tabcorp as with all other Australian Thoroughbred and harness racing on which TAB offers betting.

This is in terms of an international rights deal between SIS and Thoroughbred racing venues in Victoria and South Australia. All international bets on these meetings are commingled into pools hosted by the United Tote Company Oregon hub in the USA and not Tabcorp.

Betting rules for these pools differ from Tabcorp, principally in terms of the minimum unit of betting, which is R6 and not R1 as with Tabcorp. Consequently, a Jackpot comprising say 16 combinations will cost R96 (16 x R6) and payouts for all bets will obviously differ to those of Tabcorp pools operated within Australia.
