Queen Braganza to rule the last at Greyville

The expression “saving the best for last” could well apply for today’s day/night meeting at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday.

It is a highly competitive nine-race card and the exotics should pay well. However, it might be worth relying on the Mike and Mathew de Kock team for the best banker on the card in Race 9, a Class 4 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m, where they send out Queen Braganza.

This daughter of Potala Palace could not have been more impressive when making her debut over 1000m on the Polytrack at this course on 3 October.

There was limited betting support for the filly and she was allowed to go off at 9-2. It did not go well as she was hampered coming out of the starting stalls and ended up further back than may have been intended.

Ridden by Callan Murray, she turned for home some eight lengths off the leaders but when she was asked to run, Queen Braganza accelerated like a really top horse and went on to beat Amber Alert by 4.75 lengths.

That may have not been the strongest of fields but the manner in which she out them to bed was outstanding.

“Queen Braganza is probably our best runner for the meeting. She won her Maiden convincingly and seems to have ability and lots of speed.

“The soft track is a slight concern, she is a small filly. But all things being equal she should have a good winning chance,” is the comment posted on the De Kock website.
